We don’t have a photograph showing the contents of Chappy’s stomach (see R.I.P. Chappy blog post) but we can show you the contents of this albatross chick’s stomach. If you conduct an Internet search on “albatross plastics,” you will be flooded with similar pictures. Adult albatross mistake plastics for food, which they feed to their chicks.  

BirdLife International reports that 98% of Laysan albatross chicks, which reside in the northern Pacific, are fed plastic pollution, and 15 of the 22 albatross species are threatened with extinction, driven by human threats like marine debris. This has to stop.
